James Tainton
James Tainton (1861-1926) was born in Boroondara, Victoria to parents James W Tainton (1814-1893) and Ann Drew (1820-1886). He was a gardener, orchardist and landowner in the Vermont area. In 1892, James Tainton (1861-1926) was recorded as the owner of 20 acres in Springvale Road (Gilfedder et. al, 1992). In 1918, he owned 10 acres of land in Springvale road (Gilfedder et. al, 1992). James was a settler in the Nunawading area and signed a petition in 1858 alongside 39 fellow residents, some of whom included Thomas Lavidge, John Holland, Fernando Quattrilli, Alfred Yeomans and James Delaney (Sydenham, 1990). The petition demanded action from the Governor to address the damage and inconvenience caused by untethered animals to properties in the Nunawading area (Sydenham, 1990). |

James Henry Tainton
James Henry Tainton (1880-1951) was born in Hillston, New South Wales to parents Joseph Tainton (1850-1939) and Mary Jane Course (1857-1928). He was an orchardist and landowner in the Vermont area. In 1918, he owned a six-roomed timber house situated on 20 acres of land in Springvale road on the site of the former 'Wobbies World' theme park (Gilfedder et. al, 1992). |
