The Mock family were prominent orchardists in the Vermont area.
Agnes Mock Agnes Thompson Mock (nee McCallum) (1851-1922) was a widow who arrived in Burwood East in 1885 with her three sons: Walter (1874-1960), George Edward (1875-1957) and Thomas (1881-1968) (Alves, 2010). They acquired a 30-acre property from the Fankhauser family and subsequently established their own orchard (Alves, 2010). In 1892, Agnes was the registered owner of 30 acres of land in Burwood (Gilfedder et. al, 1992). Until their teenage years, Agnes' sons would travel to the Queen Victoria Market to sell fruit harvested from the family orchard (Alves, 2010).

Walter was also Shire President from 1927-1928 and 1940-1941 (Sydenham, 1990). During his service as a Councillor, Walter assembled the inaugural meeting of the Blackburn and Mitcham Ladies' Benevolent Society which taught to provide aid to the poor through "donation of goods and food parcels" (Sydenham, 1990).
